Tokyo Blues

High-voltage Exploration | proximity • motion • collision
Tokyo Blues by Haoyuan Ren — a man in a wide-brim hat photographed in close proximity on a Tokyo street, a surveillance camera mounted on the wall directly behind his head. Ricoh GR 28mm direct flash. Verified human capture of the collision between anonymous human presence and the infrastructure of observation: the watched and the watcher in a single frame. Opening image of a 28-image personal series documenting the manufactured image versus reality across Tokyo's Shinjuku, Kabukicho, Ueno, and Roppongi districts.
